Meet the Flat Spat. It's a ... flat spatula ... great for stir-fries and sauces in large pans and absolutely wonderful as a deep pot stirrer. The Flat Spat is a dream in casserole pots and slow cookers where its soft flat end (when laid over a little) makes good bottom contact while the small radius corners take care of the edges of the receptacle.
"I always wanted a utensil which was good for making sauces and gravies… de-glazing flat pans and pots. Therefore, I needed to design an implement which was fairly flat-ended for good surface contact and with a substantial strong handle. I named the final design The Flat Spat because it has quite a flat blade shape." - Bob Gilmour: designer.
The Flat Spat is the most robust of the kitchen implements that I make. The long flat blade is quite thin on the end but carries up to a solid strong neck and handle ... and is a little longer than most of the other utensils. This is a tool that you can put quite a bit of weight behind if you wish. It will work very well in most kitchen situations although its true strengths are in large flat pans and deep pots.
Additionally, this utensil is also a great utility tool ... for those occasions where you need something strong to cleave or ream something out ... like separating the meat out of crayfish tails or prising things open. You can also use the Flat Spat for 'spooning' out of small ramekins and dishes, by holding it down right on the blade and using like a knife.
The Flat Spat is a very versatile cooking and general purpose tool in the kitchen.
This utensil is sanded to a very smooth finish and is fully sealed with a penetrating food-neutral resin product. You do not need to oil this item as the sealing procedure creates an effective moisture barrier which will greatly slow down the oxidation process during the early years of its life. The utensil will last you a very long time and will age beautifully.
